Customer
There's this weird grinding noise every time I hit the brakes.
Mechanic
Grinding usually means your brake pads are worn down pretty badly.
Customer
Seriously? I just had them checked a few months ago.
Mechanic
Pads wear out faster if you're driving a lot in the city.
Customer
That makes sense, I've been stuck in traffic constantly lately.
Mechanic
Let's pop the hood too, since you mentioned the engine's been shaking.
Customer
Yeah, it shakes especially bad when I'm idling at a red light.
Mechanic
That could be a loose spark plug or a dirty air filter.
Customer
Oh no, is that going to be an expensive fix?
Mechanic
Not really, replacing plugs is cheap compared to the brake job.
Customer
That's a relief, I was worried you'd say it needs a new engine.
Mechanic
Ha, not this time, but I'd still get it looked at soon.
Customer
Can you fit me in today, or should I book another appointment?
Mechanic
I can squeeze you in right now if you don't mind waiting an hour.
